Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I am so thrilled that today is FRIDAY and of all days, it is St. Patrick’s Day! Being Irish and named

after my great-grandmother Catherine McCarthy who came over to the United States from Ireland

during the potato famine I am so proud of my heritage. She worked as a seamstress in Chicago and

as a housemaid for the well-established Goldblatt family. I had the honor of meeting her family

descendants  in Ireland a few years ago who had a huge fun family tree guide. While Irish folks

like me can be feisty at times, we are a warm-generous fun-loving and drinking bunch! So…..

May the road rise to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the sunshine warm upon your face

The rains fall gently upon your fields

And, until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His Hand.

February Madness was a HIT!

So last week I had the honor of illustrating and drawing the clients for Dick Blick’s February Madness event. The weather was the worst because mother nature had decided to hit the east coast with a Nor’Easter!
I was getting worried on how to get there in one piece due to high winds, slushy snow and being in the midst of mad snowflake flurries. Here in the NYC, the puddles are the WORST. You try to cross the street
and think you avoided the puddles when BAM!!! you notice suddenly that your socks are soaking wet as you show up to your venue. While I was worried about my wet socks and having low attendance, I couldn’t
have more more wrong. The moment I stepped into the store, I was NON-STOP drawing all of these amazing people who like to shop at Dick Blick stores to get art supplies and tap into their own creativity! We all
had a great time and everyone loved their caricature. If you have an upcoming event and would like to book me then send me an email at cathy@cathynolan.com

HOW TO MAKE IT HAPPEN for 2017!

So it’s the end of another year. I don’t know how it was for you but for me, it was excellent! Why? I have learned so much and made so many awesome things happen for me!

So how was I able to work with so many amazing brands like ABC NEWS, WHOLEFOODS, MACYS and DICK BLICK this year? I’ll tell you…

I made it happen. And so can you. Here are five tips:

  1. Write down what you want to achieve. So many of us daydream (trust me, I’m a big advocate for it!) but did you know we accomplish our goals so much more by writing stuff down? It’s true! By writing our goals down, we tell the universe that clearly this is what we want.

  2. Ask yourself if you are truly ready to receive. You already wrote the goal down so now it’s time to truly ask yourself – are you really ready for this? Am I willing to be open and see what comes up for me in this flow of life? Opportunities DO appear when you are truly ready to receive them.

  3. Seek and you shall find. Jesus was spot on when he said “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find.” Develop an awareness of what opportunities arise in your life and see how it connects with what you are wanting to achieve.

  4. Strike it when it’s hot. When an opportunity appears, that is when you must take action. Get out of your head and just do it like the Nike slogan says. When we take action, we don’t think and just do and that’s how we are able to make things happen.

  5. Connect and give thanks. When you met that new client, ask what you can do for them. How can I serve YOU? Show up, be your best and always show appreciation and give thanks for the opportunity. This helps build great relationships and repeat business. As they say, the fortune is always in the follow up!

I hope you have enjoyed reading this and I want to wish you a great holiday season!

Drawing NYC Chef David Burke on a BRICK!

So a week ago my friends and I had a mini-girls reunion on the Upper East Side’s Tavern 62 restaurant owned by famed chef David Burke. One of our friends knew the executive chef there, Ed Combs and he was kind enough to introduce us to his boss! Little did we know that we were going to have such a great time talking to Chef Burke and eating such great amazing food! One of the decors at his restaurant are these amazing himalayan salt bricks that with a sharpie pen folks can draw on. Well, I just could not resist and had to insist on drawing him on such a unique surface! First time for everything, right? Well he loved it! 🙂 In the spirit of Thanksgiving stop by here at HELP USA and read about Chef Burke’s contribution to help homeless men become chefs!

ELECTION NIGHT with ABC NEWS

Wow! What a crazy week it has been for me. Are you still recovering from last week’s presidential election? I am too! I drew for ABC NEWS non-stop having so much fun interviewing folks on who they voted for and why. That included women for Trump, Texans for Hillary and even one Gary Johnson voter! I did not get home until about 4AM and was happy that the election is over.  Many of you are upset, sad and in disbelief that Donald Trump won. I hear you and understand your pain. However, let’s see if America can rise up to the hateful rhetoric, the hurtful comments and reach across to the other side to seek and understand one another. How can we “Make America Empathetic Again?” What can YOU do TODAY with kindness to someone and make their day a bit brighter? We may not be able to change folks who chose to display bigoted, ignorant behavior. However if we choose to diffuse such harshness and bitterness and start a dialogue with one another maybe that will start the path to healing in this country.  I thank ABC NEWS for having me illustrate for them and hope we can all heal from this turbulent, crazy election year and move on.
